2008 League Standings

Appleton Legion Awarded 2009 Great Lakes Regional

For the second time in three years a FRV team will play host to the Great Lakes National Regional. Appleton Legion Post 38 was awarded the honor, marking only the second time a Wisconsin American Legion post will host the games. Teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Indiana will make the journey to Don Hawkins Field August 6-10, 2009, with the winner advancing to the American Legion Baseball World Series in Fargo, North Dakota. 


    Blizel Named Wisconsin Legion Baseball Player of The Year

Michael Blizel of Sturgeon Bay has been named the 2008 Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Player of The Year. Blizel was presented the award before the August 10th Milwaukee Brewers game by W.A.L.B.A. spokesperson and Brewers shortstop J.J. Hardy. Along with the plaque Blizel received a $1500 scholarship.

National Tournament Updates

Aug. 18th: Midland, MI defeated De Pere 8-6. De Pere finishes their season with a record of 42-15.

Aug. 17th: De Pere avenged their lone loss in the tournament with a 12-2 win over Belleville, Ill.  De Pere scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Mikole Pierce went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Teammate Nick Pierre continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Box Score

Aug. 16th: De Pere defeated Bradford, PA 14-0 in seven innings. Winning pitcher Bryan Fuss allowed just one hit while striking out five. Nick Pierre was 2-for-3 with a home run, four runs scored, and two RBI for De Pere. Joe Betcher went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI, and teammate Mikole Pierce was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.     Box Score  

Clintonville lost to Jordan, MN 2-0 and North Las Vegas, NV 1-0. Clintonville finishes the season with a 26-4 record.

Aug. 15th: De Pere defeated defending Great Lakes Regional Champion Rockport, IN 4-2. Mikole Pierce went 3-for-5, and Shayne Jansen, Brent Jansen, and Joe Betcher added RBI's for De Pere.  Brent Jorgensen earned the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits over eight innings. Brandon Byrne pitched the ninth inning to record the save. Box Score  

Clintonville defeated Castleton, North Dakota 4-1. Chase Stenson allowed one un-earned run while striking out six to earn the complete game win. 

Aug. 14th: Belleville, Illinois scored three runs in the bottom of the eight inning to edge De Pere 4-3. Josh Schaefer's triple scored the tying and go ahead runs. De Pere next plays Rockport, IN on Friday around 12:00. Box Score

Clintonville defeated Doniphan County, Kansas 5-0. Luke Westphal tossed a four hitter, and struck out nine in the complete game shut out for Clintonville

South Division Goes to DoubleDays
Dan Gulbransen went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI on July 15th as the Appleton DoubleDays claim their first division title.

Sturgeon Bay Wins East Division
Sturgeon Bay took to the road in the month of July and came away with their first Division Championship since 1995. The Bays, playing six division games on the road this month, came away with a 5-1 record in those games to earn the title.

De Pere Takes Central Division
For the seventh time in the last nine seasons De Pere has won their division. Neal Henrigillis went 4-for-4 with a RBI, and Brent Jorgensen allowed one run on five hits July 19.

Woods Leads Menominee To North Title
Aaron Woods struck out 12 and allowed no hits over 5 and 1/3 innings on June 10 as Menominee clinched the North Division Championship.  Woods helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with three RBI.  Teammate Cody Woods came on to record the save, allowing one hit over the final 1 2/3 innings.

Kaukauna Claims West Division
Led by state All Star Phil Schreiber's 10 strike outs, Kaukauna won their first division title since 1998. Brett Arnold and Troy Diedrich had three hits apiece, while Jimmie Dercks and Schreiber provided two RBI each in the July 14th win.
