Great Lakes Regional 5 Update from Menominee, MI
Great Lakes Regional Pairings/Scores

August 20 - Joe Erb tossed a complete game three hitter to lead Apple Valley, MN past NorChester, PA 2-1. With the win, Apple Valley moved to the championship game versus Rockport, IN.

In the decisive game, Blake Monar struck out 13 and went 3-for-5 from the plate as Rockport, IN defeated Apple Valley 7-2. Rockport now advances to the American Legion World Series in Bartlesville, OK.

August 19 - Apple Valley, MN scored 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning enroute to a 14-3 victory over Rockport, IN. Steve McGuiggan went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI for Apple Valley.

Adam Hartzell struck out 11 to lead NorChester, PA past Blissfield, MI 6-4.

August 18 - Rockport, IN remains as the only undefeated team after a 14-11 win over NorChester, PA. Rockport jumped out to a 8-0 lead after two innings, and a 9-1 lead after the fourth. NorChester fought back and tied the game at 9-9 heading into the  bottom of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the frame, Rockport would score five times. The key hit was provided by Matt Boyd's two out, two run single.

Apple Valley, MN raced to a 7-0 lead after six innings and held on to defeat Steubenville, OH 8-6. The loss was Mark Stacy's last game as Steubenville's manager.

Blissfield, MI scored nine times in the fourth inning and defeated Arlington Heights, IL 10-7.

August 17 - Neenah was eliminated by Blissfield, MI 6-5 on Friday. Trailing 4-0 after the first inning, Neenah tallied four runs in the third to tie the game at 4-4.  Blissfield went ahead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-4 lead.  That would stand until the ninth, when Neenah added a run to make it 6-5. Neenah had the bases loaded with two out but couldn't get the tying run across. They end their season with a 29-18 record.

Menominee also saw their season come to an end with a 14-3 loss to Apple Valley, MN.  Menominee had a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, but Apple Valley would rally with one in the sixth, five in the seventh and seven in the eight.

In the game of the tournament so far, NorChester, PA edges Arlington Heights, IL 1-0. The lone run of the game scored in the bottom of the ninth inning, and with two out. George Kochu singled up the middle scoring Rodney Francis. NorChester now plays Rockport, IN in the battle of undefeated teams.

Anschutz No Hits Denmark
Nate Anschutz of Sturgeon Bay tossed a no hitter July 21st. Anschutz struck out eight and walked two in the Bays 14-2 victory. Leading the way at the plate was Michael Blizel, going 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, and four RBI.

Hortonville Keeps Title Aspirations Alive
Hortonville made the most of their only hit on July 20th. Bryan Linsmeyer's double in the bottom of the first inning plated Dan Wunderlich for a 1-0 lead. That would be the only run of the game as Hortonville edged Wrightstown.

In what turned out to be a pitchers dual, Chase Drath and Ben Reigel out dueled Stephan Williams of Wrightstown. Williams allowed one hit and run over six innings. Drath picked up the win allowing three hits, while reliver Reigel struck out seven and allowed one hit.

Ashwaubenon Edges 'Jays in 10th
Justin Sizemore scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Ashwaubenon a 1-0 victory July 18th. Winning pitcher A.J. Haley struck out 10 and allowed three hits, while Jays Pitcher Marc Shield gave up four hits and one run.

Hermsen, New London Best Menasha.
On July 17th, Jake Hermsen made sure #5 ranked New London kept its slim lead in the West Division. Hermsen struck out a season high 14, including twelve in a row from the third thru sixth innings, while giving up only four hits. It marks the second time in two seasons Hermsen has reached the 14 strike out mark in a single game.

Little Chute, Knudsen Lose No Hitter, Game In Seventh
For six innings Jared Knudsen hadn't allowed a hit. That would change in the top of the seventh inning. Clinging to a 1-0 lead, Wrightstown's Eric Springer led off with a single. Springer would later score on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1. With two out, Rod Peck singled scoring Frank Martin with the winning run, giving Wrighstown the improbable 2-1 victory on July 9.

Knudsen struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits. Stephan Williams matched the effort, striking out 11 and allowing only five hits over seven innings.

Brien Tosses No Hitter
Casey Brien of the Green Bay Shockers tossed a no hitter on July 7th. Brien walked one and struck out five during his teams 11-0 victory. Teammate Chris Laux was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Chilton Edges Wrightstown In Nine Innings
On July 6th, Joe Birschbach's two out triple in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Zach Hintz with the tying run to make the score 6-6. It stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when Birschbach struck again, this time with a single scoring Aaron Leitner with the game winning run.

Birschbach finished the night going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. He was also the winning pitcher, tossing the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Rebels Power Past Kimberly
The Appleton Rebels used three first inning homeruns to defeat Kimberly 8-3 on July 5. Dan Gulbrandsen and Steve Schwandt hit solo shots, while Brett Young added a two run homerun enroute to a 4-0 first inning lead.  Aaron Heiden's grand slam in the fifth made the score 8-0 Rebels.

Bay Port Wins Wild Game
Bay Port used a seventh inning rally to pull out a 11-8 extra inning win over Denmark July 2nd.  Trailing 8-1, Bay Port scored seven times in the seventh inning to tie the game 8-8.  Pitcher Brad Johnson held Denmark scoreless in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.

In the top of the eight, Bay Port tallied three times to take a 11-8 lead. Johnson again held Denmark scoreless to earn the win. Johnson, Dom Utrie, and Brandon Danler each collected three hits.

#4 New London Tops Western Division Standings
State Ranked New London continued its unbeaten play in division action Saturday, June 30th, with a 13-1 win at Wrightstown. Zac Dunbar and Luke Ebert contributed two hits apiece and tallied six RBI combined. Kyle Petit allowed one run on four hits to earn the complete game victory.  The win keeps New London atop the West Division, just ahead of Waupaca who swept a double header at Chilton Saturday.

Waupaca Edges Hortonville Friday Night
The Waupaca Legion Baseball team used a late inning rally to pull past West Division rival Hortonville June 29th.  Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Shawn Peskie hit a double scoring two runs to put Waupaca up 3-2. Sam Oleson followed with a sacrifice fly scoring an insurance run to make the final score 4-2.  Cam Nicewander picked up the win, allowing six hits and one earned run over seven innings.
