2005 League Playoff Information

     De Pere captured its fifth Fox River Valley American Legion League championship, including its fourth in the past seven years by defeating the Appleton Rebels 6-3 in the title game on July 25 in De Pere.

     De Pere won three straight championships from 1999-2001 and also shared the title with the Rebels in 1995. Appleton made its first title game appearance since winning the crown in 1998. The game was also a rematch of last year's Class AAA state championship game won by De Pere.

     Brett Yost tossed a complete game, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out three to earn the victory. After the Rebels scored a run in the first inning, De Pere tied the game in the second on a squeeze bunt by Kyle Kopitzke and then took the lead with two runs in the third as Alex Byrne delivered a run-scoring single and Michael Brunette lofted a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

     Jeff Riddle added a two-run single in the fifth for a 5-1 lead and also contributed several diving defensive stops at second base to keep the Rebels off the board. Byrne stole home on a double steal for a 6-1 lead later in the inning. Appleton countered with a run in the sixth and had the bases loaded when Yost recorded a strikeout to end the threat. Sam Petrasko tripled and scored on a groundout for the Rebels in the seventh.
