Sheboygan Emerges From Tight
South Division Race for First Title
With all eight teams separated by just two games, Sheboygan emerged from
the pack on the final day by beating the Green Bay Shockers 11-3 in the
first game of a doubleheader on July 19 to clinch the South Division
championship. It marks Sheboygan's first division title since joining the
league in 1992.
Sheboygan tied the Appleton Rebels atop the
division with identical 8-6 records, but earned the division title based
on allowing just 43 runs in 14 league games. Sheboygan
will travel to Hortonville for the National Conference championship game
on July 22. Tuesday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. at Commercial Club
Field in Hortonville.
Grant Berkovitz was five-for-five with three
RBI's and winning pitcher Mike Rauwerdink was three-for-three with a home
run and five RBI's to lead a 14-hit Sheboygan offense. Rauwerdink
surrendered six hits while recording 10 strikeouts and walking two in a
complete game effort.
The Shockers won the second game of the
doubleheader 3-2 to tighten up the division race and finish as one of four
teams just one game back at 7-7. |
