Seven Fox River Valley League Teams Qualify for State
One quarter of the Wisconsin state tournament
qualifiers represent the Fox River Valley American Legion Baseball League
as six teams from the league qualified for Wisconsin's three eight-team
state tournaments, which take place August 2-6.
Also, the league's one non-Wisconsin squad, Menominee,
will host the Michigan state tournament
from August 8-11.
Two-time defending Class AAA runner-up Appleton Rebels
are making their fifth state tournament appearance and are among four
league teams in the Class AAA field.
The Rebels will take on 1997 state champion and South
Division rival Green Bay Shockers in the first game of the tournament
Friday at 11 a.m. Appleton won both regular season meetings by 4-1 and
10-4 scores.
Marinette was automatically in the field as the Class
AAA host, but still won its regional tournament by beating Green Bay
Southwest 9-7 and 20-9 for its 10th trip since 1983. Marinette will take
on Eau Claire Friday at 8 p.m.
Southwest still qualified as the regional runner-up and
will make its second straight trip after finishing fourth last season.
Southwest opens against either Plover or Rothschild-Schofield-Weston on
Friday at 2 p.m.
Shawano is the only league team in the Class
AA field and is making its second straight appearance in the
tournament. Shawano will take on Menomonie in the first round Friday at 1
p.m. in Waupun.
First-year league member Oconto will represent the
conference in the Class A tournament in
Westby. Oconto will take on Genoa-DeSoto-Stoddard Friday at 10 a.m.

Boxscores and tournament stats will be posted following every game of the
Class AAA tournament.
