Seven Fox River Valley League Teams Qualify for State

One quarter of the Wisconsin state tournament qualifiers represent the Fox River Valley American Legion Baseball League as six teams from the league qualified for Wisconsin's three eight-team state tournaments, which take place August 2-6.
Also, the league's one non-Wisconsin squad, Menominee, will host the Michigan state tournament from August 8-11.
Two-time defending Class AAA runner-up Appleton Rebels are making their fifth state tournament appearance and are among four league teams in the Class AAA field.
The Rebels will take on 1997 state champion and South Division rival Green Bay Shockers in the first game of the tournament Friday at 11 a.m. Appleton won both regular season meetings by 4-1 and 10-4 scores.
Marinette was automatically in the field as the Class AAA host, but still won its regional tournament by beating Green Bay Southwest 9-7 and 20-9 for its 10th trip since 1983. Marinette will take on Eau Claire Friday at 8 p.m.
Southwest still qualified as the regional runner-up and will make its second straight trip after finishing fourth last season. Southwest opens against either Plover or Rothschild-Schofield-Weston on Friday at 2 p.m.
Shawano is the only league team in the Class AA field and is making its second straight appearance in the tournament. Shawano will take on Menomonie in the first round Friday at 1 p.m. in Waupun.
First-year league member Oconto will represent the conference in the Class A tournament in Westby. Oconto will take on Genoa-DeSoto-Stoddard Friday at 10 a.m.
The scores for all four tournaments will be updated continuously at www.frvlegion.com. Boxscores and tournament stats will be posted following every game of the Class AAA tournament.
