Southwest, Shawano Claim One-Run Victories in League Playoff Semifinals

Green Bay Southwest and Shawano both posted one-run victories Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Fox River Valley American Legion League playoffs and will square off Thursday night for the league's championship.
Top-seeded Southwest used a two-hit shutout from Phil Glinski to end the Appleton Rebels' 26-game winning streak with a 1-0 win at Green Bay. Glinski drove in the game's only run with a fifth inning sacrifice fly as Southwest beat the Class AAA state champions for the third time this season among their five overall losses.
No. 2 seed Shawano scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a dramatic 3-2 victory over West Division champion Waupaca in Shawano. Brandon Emmel drove home Nate Ejnik with the winning run for Shawano, which was fresh off Tuesday's victory in the Class AA state title game.
Southwest will have a chance to beat two state championship teams on back-to-back nights when it hosts Shawano Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Green Bay Southwest High School. Both teams are looking for their first-ever Fox River Valley League titles.
