Waupaca Locks Up West Division Title and First League Playoff Berth

Casey McDaniel went three-for-three and Zac Peterson drove in three runs as Waupaca clinched its first-ever Fox River Valley American Legion Baseball League division title and playoff berth with a 9-4 win over Hortonville on Friday, July 19 at Waupaca.
Waupaca is now 14-3 in the West Division and has one game remaining on July 22 at Kaukauna, however, Waupaca holds a two-game lead over Kaukauna to lock up the divisional title.
David Yeska pitched the first four innings for the win, while Braden Kaminske and Nate Goggins provided three innings of one-hit relief for Waupaca, which is in its fifth season in the Fox River Valley League. The team's only previous winning record was a 7-6 mark in 1999.
Waupaca will join three other teams in the league playoffs on August 7. The two other divisional champions and a wild card team will make up the four-team playoffs, which begin with semifinals on August 7 and conclude with a championship game on August 8. The games will all be played at the higher seed of the two competing teams.
De Pere has the inside track for the North Division title after Shawano suffered an 8-7 loss at Northern Door on Friday. The teams are tied with three losses, but De Pere defeated Shawano twice.
Green Bay Southwest can clinch the South Division crown with a win Tuesday at Oshkosh, however, a loss would create a multiple tie with possibly Appleton Legion and Appleton Rebels.
Several teams are still in the hunt for the wild card berth entering the league's final week.
