De Pere Sweeps Neenah and Little Chute for Third Straight League Title
The new playoff format in the Fox River Valley
American Legion Baseball League is just perfect for De Pere as the
Panthers swept their third straight league title in the league's third
year under the current format.
De Pere (35-11), the North Division champion, defeated West
Division champion Little Chute 7-2 and then topped South Division champion
Neenah (25-8) 15-0 in the round-robin tournament at Van Lieshout Park in Little
Chute.
Neenah defeated Little Chute 9-5 to finish in second
place.
De Pere's Jason Berken pitched a two-hitter with
seven strikeouts as De Pere used a 14-hit attack in its five-inning win
over Neenah. Tippy Moore led De Pere at three-for-four, while Nic Spaeth,
Kevin Baker, Brad Daniels and Billy Bildings all added two hits apiece.
Kevin VanDeVen allowed five hits and struck out
five in De Pere's win over Little Chute. Berken hit a two-run double in
the second inning for a 4-1 lead.
Dave Seegers pitched a complete game to earn the
victory for Neenah in its win over Little Chute.
