Little Chute, De Pere, Neenah Clinch Playoff Berths
De Pere outlasted Sturgeon Bay 2-1 in nine innings and Neenah
defeated Oshkosh 11-6 Tuesday night to capture Fox River Valley Divisional championships
and berths in the league's playoffs Saturday, August 11. Little Chute swept a doubleheader
from Kaukauna 5-3 and 13-3 on Saturday to win the West Division title and the right to
host the playoffs at VanLieshout Park.
Two-time defending league champion De Pere received a complete game
15-strikeout pitching performance from Jason Berken to beat Sturgeon Bay for the North
Division title. De Pere scored the game-winning run when Jesse Pues singled with two outs,
stole second and scored when Kevin Baker's pop fly was misplayed.
Neenah tied Appleton Legion for the South Division crown with identical
15-3 records, but Neenah earned the division title by beating Appleton twice earlier in
the regular season.
Little Chute finished the season at 11-5 in divisional play and won its
first-ever division crown since joining the league in 1995. In fact, this season was
Little Chute's first with a winning league record in its seven seasons.
The league playoff tournament will be a three-team round-robin format.
Little Chute and Neenah will open the playoffs at 11 a.m. and then Little Chute takes on
De Pere at 2 p.m. Neenah meets De Pere at 5 p.m. The league champion is determined by the
team with the best record in the playoff tournament. If each team wins one game, the
champion will be determined by the team which allows the fewest amount of runs in its two
playoff games.
The playoffs will be followed by the league all-star game on Sunday,
August 12 at 2 p.m. in Kimberly.
